TIME TO SHUT THOSE MOBILE PHONES UP

Are you pissed off with continuously hearing the “ring, ring” of mobile phones in museums, restaurants or at the cinema? I’m not surprised! The damn things go off any and everywhere, and worse still, sometimes it’s yours and it takes you ages to find it as you dig around your pockets and bag and everybody in the place is going mental! Suppose it’s just the price we have to pay for technological advance. Well, Japanese researchers (who else!) have hit upon a way of putting a stop to all of this. They have come up with a kind of “anti-mobile phone” material to cover rooms where people don’t want mobile telephone signals to reach. You just add the mixture to wood or cement or whatever the material is and adios to bothersome mobile phone interference! Doesn’t sound like a bad idea, does it? But what if use of the stuff gets put of hand? It defeats the purpose of mobile phones in the first place!

RETURN OF THE DOORS

The Harley Davidson Motorbike was a 100 years old this summer and The Doors, with the Cult’s Ian Astbury taking Morrison’s place, got together again at a gig marking the celebration. The concert must have gone down very well because the band members have decided to repeat the experience. A quick glance at the band’s official web page, where Ian Astbury appears as an official band member, will quickly clear up any lingering doubts. Him and original members Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore kick off their tour in Los Angeles on September the 6th.

SEPULTURA WORKING ON VERSIONS

Brazilian group Sepultura are busy working on their latest album. The songs that make up the album are all versions this time round. They cover songs by the likes of Janes Addiction, Devo, U2 and Public Enemy. However, those of you eager for some new original material needn’t fret. Belo Horizonte’s tunes are being worked on in the studio and should see the light of day before the year is out.

MATRIX RELOADED

Matrix hasn’t said its last word. It has learned from its mistakes, re-gathered itself and is just dying to get stuck into Neo, Trinity and a whole lot of other heads. We’ll have to wait till 2003 to see it though. Matrix’s agents have not given up and they have filmed a seriously spectacular sequence that dances in and around the skyscrapers in Sydney. Trinity’s got some competition on his hands... Bet you’re asking yourself how we know all of this stuff? Why, we saw it in Matrix Reloaded, so we did. Just go to the highly visual whatisthematrix.com web page. And now, just what pill do you want, the blue one or the red?

MOBILE PHONES SPAMMED

Spam infested e-mails are no secret to anybody who uses electronic post. Mobile phone users will soon become very aware of the world of spam shortly. At least that’s the story in the UK where more and more messages are being sent to mobile phones. According to surveys carried out by Consumer Rights Associations, 56% of big brand name companies will be using this method of advertising by next year. The EU, in an attempt to somehow control spam, says it is going to introduce new legislation that only enables spam to be sent with the receivers permission. This, of course, is to the detriment of the telephone companies. Wouldn’t say they’re too happy about it!
