ayo silver!    Underground music fans in Donostia have been having a good time recently. We aren’t going to say that there’s a new movement or scene being born. We’ll leave that to the general press and to smoke salesmen. However, we’re sure this time will be remembered in a few years’ time. Thanks to initiatives such as Ayo Silver, we’ve had mythical garage names and contemporary offerings (Subsonics, Night Beats, Chain and the Gang, Shanon and the clams, Cheap time…) before our mouths, eyes and ears. The first Lurrazpiko music festival has been organised too. We spoke to Alex to find out a little bit more about what’s behind the mask. Ayo Silver... a great name…

Yeah! It was available for anyone to use and we
don’t get how nobody used it earlier.

What’s behind the eye-mask? A Satanic cult? A group of wealthy philanthropists? Is it a covert Get-in or Last tour project?

Three wealthy Satanists! In an interview it’s really cheap to repeat a sentence that you’ve used before, but as it’s good one, why not? We want to be a part of the action and not just watch it go past us.

Some friends from Bilbao told us they envied
all the music going on in Donostia at the moment. Apparently they want to kidnap you and get you to organize something in Bilbao…

I’ve always been a big fan of Bilbao and it really
pisses me off that some people from Donostia have a complex about the place, but yeah, it’s true, there’ been great music in Donostia recently. Lots of concerts, lots of variety, lots of people ... Bilbao’s lost its punch as far as clubs and concerts are concerned. Come to think of it, I can’t come up with a single place I like where they do concerts for 100-150 people. On the other hand, there aren’t any private spaces in Donostia for 300 people, so we rely on having a well intentioned city council. They’re treating us very well so far, but we don’t completely trust them.

You’ve started by bringing just a few listening
options (garage-rock-punk-pop-trash-fun…). It’s clear what your enthusiasms are. Is it difficult to tempt the groups you want to hear live to come here?

Mmm, well, the group s aren’t here and we do have to be quite clever to get them here and also be lucky. As well as the style, we’re also interested in the quality. The thing is, there isn’t a real garage scene in Donostia, but there are a lot of people who want to be amazed by concerts and they look for information to see if they’ll like the group or not the same afternoon. Once more, the Internet’s the key here. But if we’re talking about our concerts and our tastes, what we really want is for people to freak out with our varied, wide tastes.

How about bringing records out? What type of drugs were you on when you took that decision?

The usual ones. Without going into whether physical formats have a future or not, work with artistic merit always gets through. We don’t have our own experience in this yet, but Burger Records
and Trouble in Mind are labels of reference for us and they sometimes sell out with just reserve buying. You have to be patient and, what the hell,
there’s nothing more BEAUTIFUL than a RECORD!

We’ll stop now and let you get off on your silver horse. We hope you get rich with all of this... and, if you don’t, then we hope the money runs out very slowly so you can go on organizing concerts. Do you want to add anything else?

Thanks for taking notice!
