Amboy Dukes

The journey to the center ot the mind·mainstream records

The Band got together in 1965 in Detroit and three years later they released this physcadelic bomb. Though it was the hymn of a generation, it’s not that well known here and now. Guitarist Ted Nugent’s catchy poisonous riffs set the rhythm lines down. Rather than a trip to the centre of the universe, it’s more of a trip to the centre of the brain. Acidic and of no-return.

Steppenwolf

Born to be wild·mca

This song form 1968 can be found on Steppenwolf’s first studio album. Indispensible to bikers, the main song from the film Easy Riders told you to “Get your motor running, head out on the highway”. They sing of freedom and rebellion and for that you need the highway, speed and a bike.

Rolling Stones

Route 66·decca

In 1964, The Rolling Stones first recorded a studio version of this song written by Bobby Troup in 1946 and covered by Nat King Cole. It was a clear example of the type of Rhythm ‘n’ blues the British bands were playing at the time. A trip down the mythical US road that travels through both misery and happiness.

Daft punk

around the world·virgin

This song was a milestone for the electronic music we listen to today in this XXI Century. Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter-ek appear dressed up as robots in this 1997 track from their “Homework” album, ahead of its time. It’s full of lasers shimmering colours. It’s like they came up with the disco version of “2001 A Space Odyssey”.

Iggy Pop

The passenger·rca

Iggy takes us on a long trip here. This solo studio album sees him gazing from the window, looking for protection from the glow of the city lights. Trying to make his way forward. A hypnotic journey helped along by his friend David Bowie. In 1977 Iggy Pop began to see the light as he found freedom. The classic “Lust for Life” is also on this gem.

Javier Aramburu and Iñaki Gametxogoikoetxea were Family. And the record they published in 1993 is an icon to pop fans all around. They were the first drop of the tsunami that came behind them. One of the precious songs on this album is called ̈Viaje a los sueños polares (trip to the polar dreams) and for many years it was the name of a famous radio program. Indispensable in a list like this.
