SorKun: soundtracks and atari teenage riot ome   Sorkun is easily one of the most individual voices on the Basque rock scene and she's just released her first solo record "Onna". She recorded the album with local musicians like members of the band she used to play in, the now-disbanded Kashbad, Fermin Muguruza and Xabi Strubell. Wave after wave of fiery rock. What made you record a solo album?
When Kashbad called it a day, some people I know got at me to do something on my own. I finally decide I would while I was touring with Fermin on the tour to promote his Dub Manifest album. I started writing some stuff, something I had never done before, and, well, I had these lyrics and I started building songs around them.

You sing in Arabic and English as well as in Basque...
It's actually the first time I've done anything of my own in English. I had previously done a version of a Bad Brains song. It was easier than I thought it was going to be. The song is about an imaginary trip down the mythical Route 66 in the USA. I just felt that it should be sung in English.

You come across as being quite tough. The image you give off from the sleeve to the music is pretty strong stuff.
The same image as always as far as I'm concerned. When I spoke to the producers and musicians, I asked them to think of Atari Teenage Riot. You know, QOTSA, Turbonegro, Atari Teenage Riot and that kind of buzz. I asked them all to get into that kind of musical vibe.

Apart from the music, you also been involved in other things. You had your hand in Sodapop, one of A Deshoras latest creations.
I'm really into doing things in theatre, contemporary dance and stuff like that. The whole A Deshoras thing was really interesting. We did a lot of work getting the song together and it was a really enjoyable experience. What I'd really like to do is a film soundtrack.
