tiger lily harkaitz cano   I  manu munitegiandikoetxea The story was: Would it be possible to find words for the subtitles to go with Manu’s great pulsating images? They would need something that could do the job but wouldn’t overshadow or be too repetitive. We finally decided to do what Woody Allen did in the film "What´s up, Tiger Lily?". We doubled the film: we used text that had absolutely nothing to do with what was happening in the action onscreen. But what text? That was the dilemma. We were on about lust (?) when the artist swept all his drawings on the desk onto the floor in a feverish outburst, seemingly trying to turn the desk into a makeshift bed. Just like in the films, you betcha. Tetchy volcanic libido, a river of disorder, spin-dried chaos. I asked Manu to calm himself down. I had to use the whip I’m afraid. Can’t get anywhere without good ole’ discipline. I had to take control of the situation before everything went pear-shaped. I searched the library till I found right-wing Falangist frigate captain Juan Navarro Dagnino’s The Castaway’s Handbook. The first page sternly warns us that this booklet is compulsory in all lifeboats’ emergency kits. Falangist lust, the castaway and sex, one after the other. Although it is written in a very serious manner, Dagnino’s writings are laced with an inevitable touch of the comic. Although seriousness rings throughout the text, sex appears in Dagnino’s writings with more than a touch of comedy.
