photoshirts
When we started with the Argaz(ni)kiak (photoshirts) project, we wanted to tie it in to the spirit of Getxophoto. We wanted photos in the street. We wanted the city and its citizens to be active participants in our project. So, instead of getting spectators to come to our exhibitions, we decided to turn the spectators into physical supports for the exhibition. In order to do so, we felt the simple t-shirt would be the most appropriate support format. We screened the photos onto t-shirts and handed them out to people in the streets. The choice of the t-shirt was far from casual though as the central theme for this year’s edition is leisure time. Music festivals and concerts have become a very important part of people’s free time. A whole culture has grown up around this phenomenon. As a part of that culture it is very common for fans to wear their musical idols and passions on t-shirts. In accordance with this new(ish) fad, we asked local live music photographer Galder Izagirre to take a few ‘pot shots’ at the idols that adorn our t-shirts. In conjunction with Getxophoto and SkunkFunk, we handed out hundreds of argaz(ki)niki (photoshirts) and, this project has, as the Muppets tell us every Christmas, “filled us with pride and happiness.”
